TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Ulangan 17:2-7

Konteks
17:2 Suppose a man or woman is discovered among you – in one of your villages 1  that the Lord your God is giving you – who sins before the Lord your God 2  and breaks his covenant 17:3 by serving other gods and worshiping them – the sun, 3  moon, or any other heavenly bodies which I have not permitted you to worship. 4  17:4 When it is reported to you and you hear about it, you must investigate carefully. If it is indeed true that such a disgraceful thing 5  is being done in Israel, 17:5 you must bring to your city gates 6  that man or woman who has done this wicked thing – that very man or woman – and you must stone that person to death. 7  17:6 At the testimony of two or three witnesses they must be executed. They cannot be put to death on the testimony of only one witness. 17:7 The witnesses 8  must be first to begin the execution, and then all the people 9  are to join in afterward. In this way you will purge evil from among you.

Ulangan 27:15

Konteks
27:15 ‘Cursed is the one 10  who makes a carved or metal image – something abhorrent 11  to the Lord, the work of the craftsman 12  – and sets it up in a secret place.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’ 13

Ulangan 31:16

Konteks
31:16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “You are about to die, 14  and then these people will begin to prostitute themselves with the foreign gods of the land into which they 15  are going. They 16  will reject 17  me and break my covenant that I have made with them. 18

Ulangan 31:29

Konteks
31:29 For I know that after I die you will totally 19  corrupt yourselves and turn away from the path I have commanded you to walk. Disaster will confront you in the days to come because you will act wickedly 20  before the Lord, inciting him to anger because of your actions.” 21

[17:2]  1 tn Heb “gates.”

[17:2]  2 tn Heb “does the evil in the eyes of the Lord your God.”

[17:3]  3 tc The MT reads “and to the sun,” thus including the sun, the moon, and other heavenly spheres among the gods. However, Theodotion and Lucian read “or to the sun,” suggesting perhaps that the sun and the other heavenly bodies are not in the category of actual deities.

[17:3]  4 tn Heb “which I have not commanded you.” The words “to worship” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[17:4]  5 tn Heb “an abomination” (תּוֹעֵבָה); see note on the word “offensive” in v. 1.

[17:5]  6 tn Heb “gates.”

[17:5]  7 tn Heb “stone them with stones so that they die” (KJV similar); NCV “throw stones at that person until he dies.”

[17:7]  8 tn Heb “the hand of the witnesses.” This means the two or three witnesses are to throw the first stones (cf. NCV, TEV, CEV, NLT).

[17:7]  9 tn Heb “the hand of all the people.”

[27:15]  10 tn Heb “man,” but in a generic sense here.

[27:15]  11 tn The Hebrew term translated here “abhorrent” (תּוֹעֵבָה, toevah) speaks of attitudes and/or behaviors so vile as to be reprehensible to a holy God. See note on the word “abhorrent” in Deut 7:25.

[27:15]  12 tn Heb “craftsman’s hands.”

[27:15]  13 tn Or “So be it!” The term is an affirmation expressing agreement with the words of the Levites.

[31:16]  14 tn Heb “lie down with your fathers” (so NASB); NRSV “ancestors.”

[31:16]  15 tn Heb “he.” Smr, LXX, and the Targums read the plural “they,” which is necessary in any case in the translation because of contemporary English style. The third person singular also occurs in the Hebrew text twice more in this verse, three times in v. 17, once in v. 18, five times in v. 20, and four times in v. 21. Each time it is translated as third person plural for stylistic reasons.

[31:16]  16 tn Heb “he.” Smr, LXX, and the Targums read the plural “they.” See note on the first occurrence of “they” in v. 16.

[31:16]  17 tn Or “abandon” (TEV, NLT).

[31:16]  18 tn Heb “him.” Smr, LXX, and the Targums read the plural “them.” See note on the first occurrence of “they” in v. 16.

[31:29]  19 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with “totally.”

[31:29]  20 tn Heb “do the evil.”

[31:29]  21 tn Heb “the work of your hands.”
